Remembering

Remembrance Day and What Makes Us Canadian

There is something different about Canada. Remembrance, or Armistice, Day is celebrated everywhere in the world. And there are commemorations of those who died for their country also, everywhere in the world. But Canada is different. We don't celebrate Remembrance Day. We remember it.

Of any other day in the year, be it Grey Cup or Thanksgiving or Canada Day, Remembrance Day is a day void of politics, although some attempt to use it as such. It is a day of quiet. It is a day of silence. It is a day we can acknowledge something we cannot express. It is this day, more than anything else, that makes our country what it is.

You see, no matter what your political beliefs, no matter your language or where you are from or even if you are acknowledged as a Canadian. Within the law or outside of the law, Native, non-native, French, English, Inuit, recently arrived or the first people who got here, rich, poor, doing ok or not; young, old, child, woman, girl, boy, male, female, within our Country or a friend or ally; no matter who, where or what; we are brought together by our dead. We are not united in this world; we are united in the next. There hangs a pall over our country as we remember our dead together.

There are terrible injustices throughout our country. Greed and corruption are rampant. They did not die for the powerful or upright. They died for us: that we may remember them. That on this day we can hear them say that to us they pass the torch. In spite of the odds, in spite of who we are, we must respond to a call that is lost in the silence of the past. All of us must respond. That is what we are: the response and the echo of guns silenced.

It begins with a blog

Starting with a social media platform, I now have a blog, a podcast, a YouTube channel, actually, a number of YouTube channels, and a stream on Twitch. I also have something called Tumbler and there is also Facebook, Instagram and Twitch. So if I am to use this platform and coordinate all of these outlets, where do I begin? For me, having a journalism background in newspapers, I think starting off by writing out ideas would come first. That means I would start with a blog. I don't think I have any followers at all on this blog, which in a way, is a blessing. I really don't care what I write.

That being said, what is it that I am trying to say? Well, I have first done a series for some time with my wife, Roxy, on Physical Truth. That reminds me, I have to turn that thing into a book and publish it. Ok, I think there is something on KDP or something that let's me do that. Be right back.

Ok, just submitted the book. I wrote the thing 10 years ago, so I guess it's time to get it out there. It's been on my web page: www.RASL.ca for a free download in PDF format or you can get it in paperback. The title is Physical Truth. I did the Kindle Direct Publishing thing. It's fast and fairly easy except for the cover designer which has a lot of problems from what I see in the help pages. But if you want to go quick and fast, hey, you can publish a book a day if you want.

Now all that is needed is a shtick. Something to say. Like a beef or just whatever is on your mind eh. Mine is of course integrity, which is my old hobby horse. It's a little different than saying that there is massive amounts of corruption and fraud throughout our society, mostly in our institutions. I mean, everyone is saying that and fraud has become so commonplace in our courts, bureaucracies, corporations, financial institutions and even religious institutions that we all expect it without saying. So much so that when we find a bureaucrat or clerk who is actually honest, it is such a delight that we are very surprised. Honesty and integrity is a positive rather than a negative thing. It's like waiting for the stars to come out at night. It has to be dark enough to see the stars and they appear one by one as Gord Downey sang. And when they come out, we look and marvel at the stars and ignore the darkness. Such is the same with our society. You can stare at the ever increasing darkness all you like, but it is very draining and deflates the very soul. Why do that? Look for the light. Maybe there is a very rare and unexpected point of light in your day and that should be treasured. All the darkness in existence cannot have any degrading effect on a small point of light. As a matter of fact, it kind of enhances it and makes it easier to see.

So that makes a plan. I think if we dig into the dirt and muck of the crap we are supposed to believe in, and there is a ton of it, we could sift a little and see if there are some gems within. This is not hard to do, especially if you have a little math in your background. There are so few people within the sciences or the world of technology that can go through the math and obtain some semblance of sanity in what they are saying. Actually, I should correct myself on that. There are a lot of scientists and techies who know damn well the reality of the universe, they just have to keep their mouths shut. And that is what exposes the Emperor and his new clothes. More and more people are being blacklisted, and ostracised and eventually driven away from the accepted scientific community. Science has become a dogmatic religion that is more and more a fanatical arena of raving lunatics. And, of course, we are in a panic regarding things like environmental stability, for example. Oh yes, and let's not forget about the global economic structure, which is designed to dis-empower people right when we need more ideas and thinkers with some way to deal with all of the chaos around us. People must be terrified, not of some invading foreign power or groups of nut cases, but terrified of our own government, banks and other institutions which are there to protect us and to ensure our personal human rights.

But if we dig into it, we arrive at a common theme. That is, that it is our personal integrity which is the pillar that supports us. When it comes down to it, it is only the individual who has power in society. Sure, institutions and communities appear to have power, but they don't. An institution has no power, however, the people working for that institution, or as part of a community, have all the power. It is the individual who actually does something. The institution is only as powerful, if we think of institutions doing things, as the individuals within the institution. That is fairly obvious. So the only power is the power that lies with the individual and that power rests on the individual's personal integrity.

First Steps in a New Tomorrow

This journey is not one to reach a destination from which one may accomplish anything. It is a journey to the end. It is the final journey. We begin with play and then adventure. We have responsibilities which we may carry or ignore. We suffer consequences to our actions and consequences to things far beyond our control. And in the end, what is it all for? And who cares? We have children, we raise them to be victorious warriors for social justice, and sometimes they are taken from us before they can even march onto the battlefield. Why? What was that for? Is it to train grandchildren who will be damaged by the trauma of the loss of a parent? Why do so many live, struggle, believe and then die for nothing? Why is there such loss when there never was a chance in the first place?

The void is a place filled with nothing. No emotion. No smell, sight or light. No stepping off to the side since it is all a sidestep. Or else it is what is and all else which actually is, is the sidestep. Are we surrounded by a dream or is this the dream from which we awake and become real?

I have always wondered, what is it that causes a rock to think so deeply and for so long about time and its consequences?
